This little-heard but widely influential archetype of the Italians Do It Better stamp has been hidden in obscurity since going out of print more than a decade ago. Predating Chromatics’ Night Drive & breakthrough label sampler After Dark, I Always Say Yes was an early experiment from Johnny Jewel & Ida No to work through many of the ideas & concepts that would become synonymous in the years to come with Glass Candy & as a result, the entire sound of Italians Do It Better. It was the blueprint for the cinematic soundscapes & moody dance floor rhythms on the near horizon.
Recorded in Portland between 2004 & 2006, reissued twelve years later in 2018 due to popular demand, it’s an exploratory album from a group on the cusp of discovery. Includes five unreleased outtakes & alternate mixes culled from the original tapes. Classic.
