It’s the same dream every night: a woman in the Portland rain, a hand suspended above the piano, a bottle by the foot of the bed. An electric guitar drips its delicate way through a gauze of reverb, of resplendent noise. There’s a message on the machine. There’s thunder rolling in from beyond the horizon. It’s too late. Our dreams have all vanished. This is a record of loneliness and heartbreak, the longing felt for an alternate reality in which mistakes went unmade & promises unbroken. But it’s not without hope. Kill for Love takes place at the time of night when what’s bleak seems romantic, & vice versa. The screen stays flashing in your mind. Is it something you imagined, this melodrama?
